Stacey Dooley Face to Face with the Bounty Hunters (BBC Two/Three)

Stacey Dooley Investigates bounty hunters in the USA, as she joins a group of all action bounty hunters as they track down fugitives who have skipped bail in order to bring them back to justice.

In America, if you are arrested a bail price is set for your release before your trial. If you can’t afford to pay the bail price set, which is on average $10,000, you face two options. You either sit in jail until your trial or recruit the help of a bail bondsman. Bail bondsmen will cover the cost of your bail, for a 10-15% charge, allowing you to go free, on the condition that you attend your court dates. If you fail to show for your trial, the bail bondsmen has 60 days to return you to jail before they forfeit the bail they covered. This is when bounty hunters are called in, to track you down and bring you back to justice.

In order to understand one of America’s most historic professions, Stacey joins bounty hunters Scott and Lydia Gribble and their team, and joins them as they go on the hunt for fugitives. She witnesses the tracking, the tracing and the danger of the job, while also questions whether the bail system is fair to put a price on a person’s freedom.
